We at august philippic wish you to know that we have not yet turned on Angelina Jolie. She has our full support for the coming season.
In other news, China shot down a satellite. We'd like to express our sympathy for the satellite, which was no doubt a symbol of budding democracy, or a special unicorn satellite, or perhaps "puppysat," tracking man's best friend. Curse you evil Chinese! How dare you shoot your own satellite? And not invite us along?
We at august philippic are feeling surly.

Er, that is to say, not yet turned against Angelina Jolie. Turning on Angelina Jolie was never very likely.
the fun thing about the china shooting down that satellite: reading the offical u.s. space policy. it boils down to this: space belongs to everyone, but mostly to us.
of particular interest: who thought these bullet points weren't contradictory?
The United States rejects any claims to sovereignty by any nation over outer space or
celestial bodies, or any portion thereof, and rejects any limitations on the fundamental
right of the United States to operate in and acquire data from space;
The United States considers space systems to have the rights of passage through and
operations in space without interference. Consistent with this principle, the United States
will view purposeful interference with its space systems as an infringement on its rights;
The United States considers space capabilities -- including the ground and space
segments and supporting links -- vital to its national interests. Consistent with this
policy, the United States will: preserve its rights, capabilities, and freedom of action in space; dissuade or deter others from either impeding those rights or developing capabilities intended to do so; take those actions necessary to protect its space
capabilities; respond to interference; and deny, if necessary, adversaries the use of space capabilities hostile to U.S. national interests;
so...1) space belongs to everyone; 2) therefore, you don't have the right to interfere with our space shit; but 3) we still reserve the right to fuck with your space shit.
boy, i love this country.
Need a beer?
twif -- exactly
keif -- I so need a beer. Thanks.
what you really need is a blonde hooker. [grin]
And I thought you were making a rugby joke...
actually a very good brewery. though, alas, i cannot get any of their beers unless i visit my folks. maryland, unfortunately, is not quite the hot-bed of brewing that the northeast is. at least there is a decent package store nearby though.
i was disappointed, however, one night when i popped into a store (on my way back from pottery class) to get some porter. stocked decent labels, but nary a porter on the shelves. not a single one. in january! it's winter, give me dark beers. no, roughly half of the offerings were IPAs. now, i like IPAs, but i think of them as a summer brew, not a winter one. bastards. didn't even have sammy smith's taddy porter (despite stocking samuel smith). that's unexcusable.
Did they stock SS's oatmeal stout? I think I'd forgive them myself if they did.
K
yes, they did. that would have been a true sin. but i wanted porter, damn it. how can you not have a single porter in stock?
plus, the guy working there tried to convince me that a german dark lager would be a good substitute...
